An Apollo Adlux Hospital visitor guide for out-of-town families

Most of our guests at Veranda Villa are families with someone being treated at Apollo Adlux Hospital, just 1 km away. We've hosted enough hospital-stay guests over the years to write down what tends to be useful - distances, logistics, food, and the things people wish they'd known before they flew in.

About Apollo Adlux

Apollo Adlux is a multi-specialty hospital in Karukutty, on the edge of Angamaly town. It opened in 2019 as part of the Apollo network and is one of the larger tertiary-care hospitals in the Cochin region. People come here from across central Kerala for cardiology, oncology, neurology, and orthopaedics.

Address: Apollo Adlux Hospital, Angamaly NH Bypass, Karukutty, Ernakulam, Kerala 683576.

Getting there

  • From Cochin International Airport (COK): 10 km, 10–12 minutes by car. Prepaid taxi at the terminal costs ₹250–350.
  • From Veranda Villa: 1 km, under 3 minutes by car. Walkable for able-bodied visitors.
  • From Angamaly Railway Station: 6 km, 15 minutes. Major junction with trains from across India.

What to plan for as an out-of-town family

Length of stay

Most treatment cycles run longer than first estimated. Build in buffer days. Our long-stay rates kick in at 7 nights (15% off) and again at 28 nights (up to 30% off) - designed precisely for this kind of unpredictable timeline.

Where to stay

The hospital itself has limited attendant accommodation, and hotels nearby are mostly transit-grade. For anything more than a 2–3 day stay, a villa or homestay nearby tends to work better - you get a kitchen for special diets, a washing machine for daily laundry, and quiet for sleep.

Food

The hospital canteen is decent for hospital food but tiring as a long-term option. Karukutty has small Kerala restaurants within a 5-minute walk for staples like dosa, parotta, fish curry. Angamaly town (10 min) is known for its beef and pork dishes - and has more restaurant variety.

For special-diet patients, cooking from the villa kitchen is the most reliable option. Several long-stay guests have told us this single fact made the trip manageable.

Pharmacies and groceries

24-hour pharmacies operate within a few hundred metres of Apollo Adlux. The MedPlus, Apollo Pharmacy, and a couple of independent chemists are the reliable ones. For groceries, a small supermarket is 800 m away; for a bigger run, Moolans Hypermarket in Karukutty (10 min) or Lulu Mall Kochi (45 min) are the options.

Transport during stay

  • Uber and Ola work around Karukutty / Angamaly during the day. Late-night availability can be patchier - keep a local driver's number.
  • Auto-rickshaws are readily available for short hops (₹40–80).
  • If you want flexibility, renting a car for the duration of your stay is easy - let us know and we'll connect you with a trusted local provider.

Languages

Hospital staff speak English, Malayalam, Hindi, and Tamil broadly. Restaurant and shop staff outside the hospital may be Malayalam-only - Google Translate or a host on call (which is what we offer at Veranda Villa) covers the gap.

The emotional bit

Hospital trips are exhausting in ways that have nothing to do with logistics. The point of a good villa nearby isn't luxury - it's to remove every unnecessary decision so the family can focus on the one decision that matters. A kitchen that works. A bed that's already made. A host on WhatsApp when something breaks at 11pm. That's what we try to be.

Send an enquiry →with your dates, and we'll send back availability and an exact long-stay rate. Or WhatsApp the host directly.
